HERSHEY, Pa. — Registration is now open for Penn State Cancer Institute’s ninth annual Cancer Research Day from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 24, in the Animal, Veterinary and Biomedical Sciences Building on the University Park campus. Interested individuals can register here.
Cancer Research Day, open to all Penn State faculty, staff, trainees and students interested in cancer research, provides attendees with the opportunity to collaborate with peers and learn more about cancer research careers from established research professionals with a variety of backgrounds who can support trainees as they showcase their own research. The program this year includes featured presentations from current cancer research trainees, a keynote speaker, networking opportunities and a poster session.
There is no cost to attend, and breakfast and lunch will be provided.
About the keynote speaker
Jason Mills, professor and chair of molecular and precision medicine at Penn State College of Medicine, will be this year’s keynote speaker.
Mills is a human pathologist and scientist whose research focuses on cell and developmental biology, bioinformatics and the gastrointestinal tract. His lab studies how stem cells and mature cells respond to injury and other stressors, with a particular focus on paligenosis, a cellular program that enables tissue repair but can also contribute to chronic, precancerous conditions and tumor development. His research has informed translational efforts, including clinical trials, aimed at preventing and treating cancer.
