Spring courses start soon for World Campus Online Faculty Development

The next round of instructor-led courses starts on March 16

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Penn State instructors and staff members seeking to strengthen their online teaching and course development skills can register now for instructor-led spring courses offered by Penn State World Campus Online Faculty Development.

The next set of instructor-led courses will run March 16 to April 17. Participants can sign up for OL 2000.01: Essentials of Online Teaching and OL 2150.01: Canvas Hands On.

OL 2000.01: Essentials of Online Teaching shares how instructors can be present, engaged, and build a climate of belonging in an online course environment. The course work is built on the Critical Teaching Behavior framework while implementing best practices in teaching and delivering a pre-designed online course.

At the conclusion of this course, participants should be able to prepare to teach online, know resources for instructor and student assistance, and identify characteristics of online student populations at Penn State.

OL 2150.01: Canvas Hands On focuses course preparation and implementation in Canvas. Participants will see how to prepare a Canvas course, add content, manage student interactions, and additional features. The course is hands-on and is built on the competencies necessary to effectively use Canvas.

Registration for these and other 2026 courses is open now. Courses and certificates are free and available to all Penn State instructors and staff members. Registration closes one week before the start date for instructor-led courses.
