DALLAS, PA. — The Arts at Hayfield organization’s 39th Annual Summer Arts Festival returns to Penn State Wilkes-Barre in Dallas on Sunday, Aug. 24, from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., rain or shine. The festival will feature more than 120 artisans, performers, crafters and food vendors.
Event and activity highlights during the festival include:
- Food vendors stationed behind the Hayfield House serving popular festival foods.
- Folk rock, jazz, bluegrass, chamber music, juggling, and costumed storytelling performances beginning at 10 a.m. and continuing throughout the day.
- The grand opening of artist Terri Yacovelli’s new solo exhibition, titled “Fused: Works in Encaustic Wax,” in the campus’ Friedman Art Gallery. From 1 to 2 p.m., Yacovelli will demonstrate the encaustic art process behind the Nesbitt Academic Commons building.
- A craft tent with face painting and other special activities for children, along with creative projects for all ages. Attendees are also invited to capture photographs with costumed princesses and heroes.
- Three 45-minute tours of the historic Hayfield House at 11 a.m., 12:15 p.m., and 3 p.m. Explore and learn about the history of the estate and the lives of John and Bertha Conyngham.
- Master Gardeners answering questions about gardening.
The requested entry fee for the Summer Arts Festival is $3. Admission is free for students under 18 and college students with identification. All donations help fund an annual achievement award for arts-oriented Penn State Wilkes-Barre students, public musical performances, and community arts programs offered by other local organizations. Donations also contribute to restoration projects at the Hayfield House and support other art enrichment programs at Penn State Wilkes-Barre.
