UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Transportation Services has announced its fall 2025 event schedule for the Bike Den, including a variety of workshops and clinics.
Located on the ground floor of the West Deck, the Bike Den is a community-focused space that provides resources and support for biking, including DIY bike repair, bike clinics, workshops, and other educational opportunities. Regular hours are Monday through Saturday from noon to 6 p.m., and all Bike Den services and activities are free and available to students, faculty, and staff, as well as local community members that are 18 years and older.
All Bike Safety 101 and Winter Biking 101 workshop attendees will receive a free pair of Penn State bike lights. Space is limited, and RSVPs must be received by the day before each workshop.

Bike Safety 101 Workshop
- Tuesday, Sept. 2 (6:15-8:15 p.m.)
This workshop will teach participants the rules of the road and bike safety skills before bringing the group outside to a beginner-friendly practice course. A bike and helmet are required to participate.
Brake clinics
- Tuesday, Sept. 23 (6:15-7:15 p.m.)
- Tuesday, Sept. 30 (6:15-7:15 p.m.)
These clinics will teach participants how to identify, install, and adjust various bicycle brake calipers (and their corresponding levers) including disc (cable and hydraulic), side pull, cantilever, and V-brakes. Several examples will be presented, and participants are encouraged to bring their own bikes for maintenance.
Wheel Basics Clinic
- Wednesday, Oct. 29 (6:15-8:15 p.m.)
This clinic will teach participants how to identify and adjust a bicycle wheel and its various parts including the rim, spokes, hub, freewheel, and cassette. Participants will also learn how to replace a broken spoke, remove gear cogs, and wheel truing basics.
Wheel Building Clinic
- Wednesday, Nov. 5 (6:15-8:15 p.m.)
Participants in this clinic will assemble a bicycle wheel from scratch. Spokes, hubs, and rims will be provided, or participants can bring their own.
Winter Biking 101 Workshop
- Wednesday, Nov. 12 (6:15-7:15 p.m.)
This workshop will teach participants the rules of the road and winter bike safety tips. As this is an indoor, classroom-style workshop, a bicycle is not required for participation.
