THON 5K to impact campus traffic, parking and transit on Sunday, Oct. 26

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — The THON 5K Fun Run/Walk race at Penn State will take place on Sunday, Oct. 26, starting at approximately 10:40 a.m. with the Kids' race. The Kids' race will close Curtin Road from University Drive to Porter Road until 2 p.m.  

The 5K Fun Run/Walk will begin at approximately 11 a.m. The walk will begin along Curtin Road near Beaver Stadium and will follow the University's standard 5K route, as listed below:  

  • East on Curtin Road to Porter Road 
  • South on Porter Road to Hastings Road  
  • West on Hastings Road to Bigler Road  
  • North on Bigler Road to Pollock Road  
  • West on Pollock Road to Fraser Road  
  • North on Fraser Road to Curtin Road  
  • East on Curtin Road to the Bryce Jordan Center  

Parking for the event will be available at Jordan East and Stadium West.  

For the safety of all those participating in the event, Curtin Road between University Drive and Porter Road will be closed from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m., and the affected portions of Porter Road, Hastings Road, Pollock Road, Fraser Road, and Curtin Road will be closed on Sunday from approximately 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., with roads reopening as the race proceeds through each area. This will impact access to the following campus parking areas:

  • Orange H  
  • Orange T 
  • Yellow H  
  • Yellow V  
  • Yellow M 
  • Yellow T (section near Pollock Commons)  
  • Silver B

CATA Service Impacts

Courtesy stops will be honored on Park Avenue. 

The following CATABUS route detours will be in effect during the entire duration of the event:  

White Loop: 

The White Loop will service Beaver Avenue at Allen Street during the event, service the Meridian Apartments at University Drive, turn left and merge back onto East College Avenue, left onto Puddintown Road, left onto Orchard Road, left onto Park Avenue, left onto North Atherton Street where normal routing will resume at Beaver Avenue.  

The Blue Loop and Red Link will follow the White Loop routing.  

NV Route:  

From Toftrees, this route will travel down Fox Hollow Road, turn left on Park Avenue, right onto Orchard Road, right onto Puddintown Road, and right onto East College Avenue where normal routing will resume.
