UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Transportation Services has selected RTA: The Fleet Success Company to provide Penn State’s new Fleet Management Information System (FMIS), a centralized platform designed to improve oversight, efficiency and decision-making for University-owned vehicles.
The FMIS will consolidate vehicle, maintenance, fuel and cost data into a single platform, giving fleet managers greater visibility into vehicle performance, maintenance schedules and operating expenses. This supports Penn State's broader Fleet Management Organization initiative, a University-wide effort to enhance fleet operations through standardized policies, improved oversight and data-driven decision-making
By replacing multiple recordkeeping methods with a centralized system, the new FMIS is expected to improve data accuracy, reporting capabilities and fleet-wide visibility. The platform will also provide insights into vehicle lifecycles, utilization, maintenance history and total cost of ownership, helping departments make more informed decisions about vehicle replacement, maintenance strategies and resource allocation. The data collected will also inform lease-versus-own analyses and other fleet acquisition decisions.
Transportation Services will begin implementation with RTA in the coming weeks and will work closely with vehicle managers across Penn State in the coming months to integrate the system and maximize its benefits. FMIS will help support more consistent maintenance scheduling, streamline administrative processes and strengthen risk management efforts.
At this time, FMIS will not affect the vehicle reservation process for fleet vehicle rental customers. Transportation Services will continue to provide updates regarding any future changes that may impact reservations or related customer services.
