UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Penn State University Libraries’ locations University-wide have posted their fall semester hours of operation. For most locations, the hours are effective when classes begin on Monday, Aug. 25, through Friday, Dec. 19.
Library hours vary across all locations, including University Park branch locations and at Commonwealth Campuses. All library hours are available online, listed by weekly view. For monthly hours, toggle from the default week view to the month view link on the Hours and Locations page.
At the University Park campus, Pattee Library and Paterno Library hours for fall 2025 are 7:45 a.m. to midnight Mondays through Thursdays, 7:45 a.m. to 7 p.m. Fridays, 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturdays, and 11 a.m. to midnight Sundays.
During Labor Day weekend, Pattee Library and Paterno Library will have modified hours, closing at 5 p.m. Friday, Aug. 29 and remaining closed Saturday, Aug. 30, through Labor Day on Monday, Sept. 1.
The University Libraries follows Penn State’s observed holiday schedule and will be similarly closed on other campus-observed holidays. Modified hours of operation also occur during the semester when classes are not in session, such as the fall break days prior to Thanksgiving and during finals week and winter break.
During finals week, Pattee Library and Paterno Library will have extended hours through 2 a.m. from Monday, Dec. 8, through Thursday, Dec. 11, and again from Sunday, Dec. 14, through Thursday, Dec. 18.
The University Libraries also follows Penn State’s weather-related cancellations and will be closed during those times. Changes to library hours based on inclement weather or other urgent conditions will be listed on each location’s webpage and through library alerts linked atop the University Libraries website. Visitors are advised to check a location’s hours prior to visiting, should severe weather or other conditions impact local service areas.
Planning library hours involves an ongoing review process. In recent years, this process has included reviewing user data — such as gate counts, circulation data and engagement data — while considering each library’s budget, its local community’s needs — such as library user preferences, services and materials — and, finally, available library staffing.
Penn State faculty, staff and graduate students at the University Park campus are invited to consider using the University Libraries’ Office Delivery Service, which directs requested library materials to departmental office addresses via campus mail, for their convenience.
