Health Promotion and Wellness announces student fall events

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — This fall, Penn State Health Promotion and Wellness (HPW), a unit in the division of Student Affairs, is offering a variety of activities that are designed to support students’ health and well-being. 

“Health Promotion and Wellness offer activities that help students enhance their well-being and succeed in college.” said Erin Raupers, assistant director of Health Promotion and Wellness. “All students are encouraged to participate in these wellness activities regardless of where they are on their wellness journey.” 

Flourish Suite  

Drop by the Flourish Suite in 102 HUB-Robeson Center and check out the space. The suite offers a quiet and relaxing environment with Zen sand gardens, calm lighting, a meditation space, and reading materials about mindfulness and contemplative practices.  

Regular operating hours for the suite are Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. 

Yoga/meditation 

Certified instructors lead yoga and meditation classes now through Dec. 10. 

Classes are offered weekly. 

  • Mondays from Noon to 1 p.m. in 232 HUB-Robeson Center 
  • Mondays from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. in 122 Pasquerilla Spiritual Center 
  • Wednesdays from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. in 232 Hub-Robeson Center 

Shinrin-yoku (Forest Bathing) 

Join an ANFT-certified forest therapy guide as you take a slow sensory walk-through Hartley Woods at The Arboretum at Penn State. Walks begin Sept. 9 through Oct. 29.  

  • Tuesdays from 4 to 5:30 p.m. 
  • Wednesdays from 5 to 6:30 p.m.

Breathe into Balance  

This weekly wellness activity promotes resiliency and relaxation through breathwork. Learn practical skills that will help transform the way you respond to stress. Registration is not required. Starting Sept. 4 through Dec. 11 on Thursdays from noon to 1 p.m. in 232 HUB.   

Vibe Out x Mindful Making 

Enjoy music and art! These programs highlight creativity, curiosity and fun. Combine music with calming crafts to experience hands-on stress relieving techniques. Activities begin Sept. 24 at 4 p.m. with Terracotta Pot Painting in room 134 HUB. 

Well-being Wednesday  

Check out the weekly resource table on Wednesdays at the Intramural (IM) Building from 3 to 5 p.m. Make a mind jar or a friendship bracelet, or use a Zen Garden. Activities are designed to introduce you to the IM building and enhance your overall wellness. Well-being Wednesday is a collaboration between Campus Recreation and Health Promotion and Wellness. 

Nature and Art Rx kick-off Week 

Sept. 22 through 27 will feature a range of art and nature-based events as part of a new Nature and Art Rx Annual Kick-off Week. Events range from mandala and collage to Forest Bathing at the Arboretum at Penn State, to flower arranging at the Student Farm. A highlight of the week will feature keynote speaker Don Rakow, on Sept. 25 from 6 to 7 p.m. in Freeman Auditorium, who will speak about the benefits of spending time in nature.
