UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Penn State’s Student Farm and Food Systems will host its eighth annual Summer Solstice Celebration from 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, July 1, at the Dr. Keiko Miwa Ross Student Farm.
The event is free and open to the public. Attendees will have the opportunity to enjoy live music, food from local vendors and hands-on activities while spending an evening at the farm.
Guests can purchase food from local food truck Farmstead Fusion, which will feature fresh produce grown at the Student Farm. Penn State students will also receive a free dessert coupon.
The event will feature live music from a local band and several craft and activity stations, including the popular Sun Tea making and tasting table. Casual tours of the farm will be offered throughout the evening.
“Our Summer Solstice event is a great laid-back summer evening activity to attend,” said Sarah Landauer, community outreach specialist. “Everyone in the community is welcome to come relax on the farm and enjoy crafting, food and live music.”
The Ross Student Farm is located near the intersection of Big Hollow and Fox Hollow roads. Guests may park in the paved lot adjacent to the farm for the posted hourly rate.
A free shuttle will provide transportation between the farm and the bus pullout near the Penn State Berkey Creamery throughout the event. Individuals who require parking accommodations should email studentfarm@psu.edu in advance.
Attendees are encouraged to bring a reusable water bottle, sun protection, a picnic blanket or lawn chair, and sturdy shoes. Pets are not permitted on the farm to help protect food crops currently in production.
In the event of inclement weather, updates will be posted on the Student Farm Facebook and Instagram pages. Information about additional summer events is also available through those channels.
