Sokolov-Miller Center to host two public financial literacy webinars in November

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — The Sokolov-Miller Family Financial and Life Skills Center will hold two public webinars in November, “Retirement — Planning for Your Future” and “Preparing for Financial Emergency.”

Pittsburgh National Corporation (PNC) is Penn State’s official consumer banking partner, and a speaker from PNC will be presenting these webinars. These workshops are open to students, staff and the community, and aim to help attendees feel confident in creating positive money management choices and creating a solid fiscal foundation.  

November Webinars  

Retirement - Planning for Your Future presented by PNC

Noon–1 p.m., Nov. 4

Clarify the differences between various types of retirement savings vehicles, including 401(k)s, 403(b)s and traditional Roth IRAs. Learn how to determine how much income you'll need in retirement and how to combine saving and investing strategies to provide that income. 

Preparing for Financial Emergency presented by PNC

Noon–1 p.m., Nov. 18

Unexpected events can result in financial emergencies, such as home or car repair, illness, divorce or a natural disaster. In this workshop you will be assisted in how to increase your financial peace of mind by learning how to incorporate an emergency fund into your regular budget. Throughout the webinar there will be an added discussion on strategies for adjusting your budget to weather the unexpected if an emergency does occur.

The Sokolov-Miller Family Financial and Life Skills Center’s mission is to help provide students and others in the Penn State community with the ability to use knowledge and skills to manage financial resources effectively for a lifetime of financial well-being. Over 400 appointments were made in 2024 with the center’s financial counselors and trained student ambassadors to discuss initiatives outlined within its five-principles: earning, saving and investing, spending, borrowing, and protecting. The center hosts workshops, class and group presentations, webinars, personal one-on-one meetings, and online self-study modules on a variety of financial topics to the entire Penn State community.
