UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — The Sokolov-Miller Family Financial and Life Skills Center will hold two public webinars on Jan. 6, "Considering Home Ownership" and Jan. 20, "All About Taxes."
All webinars are open to students, staff and the community, and aim to help attendees feel confident in creating positive money management choices and creating a solid fiscal foundation.
Pittsburgh National Corporation (PNC) is Penn State’s official consumer banking partner, and a speaker from PNC will be presenting on Jan. 6, while Sokolov-Miller Family Financial and Life Skills Center Education Program Specialist Melanie Schramm will present the second webinar on Jan. 20.

Considering Home Ownership: Noon–1 p.m., Jan. 6
In this workshop, attendees will explore the pros and cons of home ownership and what they need to do to be financially ready to buy their first house. Learn what home ownership really costs, beyond just mortgage payments; what to expect when applying for a mortgage; and which government programs can make home ownership more affordable.
All About Taxes: Noon–1 p.m., Jan. 20
Whether you’re new to filing or just need a refresher, this session will break down the basics of how taxes work and provide essential information to make filing easier. Learn how to cover annual updates and key information about the current tax landscape to ensure you’re prepared and informed. In addition to, the basics of taxes, navigating tax changes and updates, and common forms you might encounter (like W-2, 1098-T or 1099s).

The Sokolov-Miller Family Financial and Life Skills Center's mission is to provide students and the Penn State community with the ability to use knowledge and skills to manage financial resources effectively for a lifetime of financial well-being.
