UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — As Penn State celebrates its 11th GivingTuesday on Dec. 2, Movin’ On is launching a renewed campaign to finalize the Movin’ On Endowment. The endowment will permanently support the Movin’ On Scholarship, created to recognize Penn State students who demonstrate exceptional leadership, creativity and commitment to advancing live music and campus life.
Penn State Movin’ On is one of the top five student-run music festivals in the country. The scholarship fund was originally launched during Movin’ On’s 50th Anniversary celebration, marking a historic milestone for the festival. The event has been a Penn State tradition since 1975, providing students with experiential learning, hands-on industry engagement and leadership opportunities behind one of the largest student-run music festivals in the country.
By participating in GivingTuesday, donors can make an immediate and lasting impact supporting the students who bring the festival, a celebrated campus tradition, to life each year. All gifts of any size made through the GivingTuesday campaign push the festival closer to its goal and strengthen Penn State’s culture of student philanthropy and community impact.
Several former student leaders reflected on the impact Movin’ On has had on their careers and lives.
"I came from a small town with no industry connections, yet my time with Movin’ On opened doors and caught the attention of professionals which ultimately led me to my career in the heart of the live music world," said Sofia Moussan, executive assistant at Live Nation and 2023–24 Movin' On executive director. "Everyone deserves the opportunity to pour their whole heart into their passion the way that I was lucky enough to."
Mark Shulman, senior vice president of programming at Oak View Group and 1995 Movin' On executive director, said, "My time as executive director of Movin’ On laid the foundation for my career producing some of the nation’s biggest concerts. This student-run event offers Penn Staters a rare, hands-on opportunity that opens doors to some of the most competitive careers in the industry."
GivingTuesday kicks off on Dec. 1 at 6:55 p.m. (18:55) and all day on Tuesday, Dec. 2.
