UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Penn State invites students, faculty, staff and community members to the Martin Luther King Jr. Commemoration Evening Celebration on Tuesday, Jan. 21, at the HUB-Robeson Center's Freeman Auditorium. The event will feature esteemed guest speaker Beverly Daniel Tatum, former president of Spelman College, psychologist, and author of "Can We Talk About Race?" and "Why Are All the Black Kids Sitting Together in the Cafeteria?"
The evening will commence with a reception offering light fare at 6 p.m., followed by Tatum's address at 7 p.m. Attendees are encouraged to arrive early, as seating is limited and doors will close once capacity is reached. No tickets are required for this free event.
"Dr. Tatum's insights into race relations and education are profoundly impactful," said Lisa Kerchinski, assistant director of Leadership and Service in Student Leadership and Involvement, a unit in the division of Student Affairs. "Her participation in this year's commemoration offers our community a unique opportunity to engage in meaningful dialogue reflecting Martin Luther King Jr.'s enduring legacy."
This event is part of Penn State's 50th Annual Martin Luther King Jr. Commemoration, themed "Change Continues With Us," which includes a series of activities honoring Martin Luther King Jr.'s life and work.
