UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Penn State students are invited to join a campus-wide Day of Service on Monday, Jan. 20, at University Park, to honor the legacy of Martin Luther King Jr. and his commitment to community, equity and service.

The event will provide students with opportunities to engage in meaningful service projects that address local community needs, including volunteering at food banks, assisting with environmental cleanup efforts, and participating in educational outreach programs.

Participants will meet at Alumni Hall in the HUB-Robeson Center for a light breakfast and check-in between 8–8:30 a.m. Volunteers will be assigned on a first-come, first-served basis to service activity stations hosted by local community partners. Volunteer assignments will end at 11 a.m. and participants are welcome to gather for a light lunch before departing at noon.

Immediately following the Day of Service a presentation of the film Selma will be hosted in Freeman Auditorium. The film chronicles the true story of Martin Luther King Jr.’s campaign to secure equal voting rights in the face of violent opposition. Students can reserve their seat in OrgCentral.

This Day of Service is part of Penn State’s ongoing commitment to fostering civic engagement and community impact. For more information about upcoming events honoring Martin Luther King Jr., visit mlk.psu.edu and see "Events honoring Martin Luther King Jr. to be held at Penn State campuses."
