UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Penn State Campus Recreation has completed renovations to the outdoor tennis courts located directly beside the west side of the Intramural (IM) Building, providing students and Campus Recreation members with an updated outdoor recreation space.
The project, which began May 11 and was completed Aug. 18, included pavement repairs and court resurfacing; replacement of exterior fencing and fence posts; new gates and tennis nets and posts; and improvements to accessible pathways, entrance points and surrounding sidewalks.
The 12 regulation-size hard courts had reached the end of their previous surface’s life cycle, making rehabilitation and resurfacing necessary to restore the courts to the high-quality playing experience and standards expected by Campus Recreation, a unit in the division of Student Affairs.
The courts are available from dawn to dusk, weather permitting.
In addition to supporting recreational use by students and Campus Recreation members, the courts are used by academic colleges for general health and wellness classes through collaborations with Campus Recreation.
The project was completed in partnership with Penn State’s Office of Physical Plant and Nastase Construction Inc. and was supported through Student Fee Board funding.
“The outdoor tennis court renovations adjacent to the IM Building have provided a much-needed update to both the playing surfaces and the overall look of the facility,” said Steve Kampf, senior director for Campus Recreation. “This project was made possible through collaboration and has helped create high-quality facilities and a more enjoyable space for students and the campus community.”
