UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — The Penn State Office of the Board of Trustees is accepting applications through Feb. 21 for the position of student trustee. Full-time undergraduate, graduate and professional students in good standing at any Penn State campus — including World Campus — and able to serve a two-year term are eligible to apply.
The 38-member Board of Trustees is responsible for the governance and welfare of Penn State, and its membership includes a student member. The board approves the University budget, sets tuition rates and oversees the institution. The student trustee serves as the voice of the student body in board discussions and decision-making, while building professional connections and leadership skills.
The student trustee election will be held during the Board of Trustees meeting on May 9, with the position’s two-year term to go into effect starting July 1.
The Office of the Board of Trustees is also accepting applications for six at-large seats on the Student Trustee Selection Committee. The committee, chaired by the current student trustee and composed of student government leaders and other members of the student body, participates in the evaluation of student trustee applicants and helps select a peer that will represent the entire student body on the board. Applications for the selection committee will be accepted through Feb. 7.
Outgoing Student Trustee Kevin Schuyler will host an information session at 6 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 3, in 134 HUB-Robeson Center at University Park campus and via Zoom, to discuss the student trustee position and the selection committee, and to provide an overview of the board and how it works. Schuyler has served as student trustee since July 2023.
Schuyler earned a bachelor’s degree in general science with a concentration in biochemistry and a minor in economics from the Eberly College of Science in May 2024. He is currently enrolled in the master’s program in business analytics in the Smeal College of Business. He has accepted a full-time position as a supply chain consultant with Deloitte after graduation.
