Webinar introduces free tool to help providers support veterans’ well-being

Informational webinar on Veteran Transition Screener to be held Jan. 23

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Veteran-serving providers can now access a free, innovative, evidence-based tool designed to improve outcomes for veterans and their families across multiple life domains, including employment, education, financial, physical and mental health and social relationships. On Jan. 23 at 3 p.m., the Veteran Evaluation and Research Applications Network (VETERANetwork) within the Clearinghouse for Military Family Readiness, with funding from the May and Stanley Smith Charitable Trust, will host a free webinar introducing the Veteran Transition Screener (VTS).

“The Veteran Transition Screener is designed to provide empirically-based validated information for veteran-service providers that represents a significant step forward in ensuring that veterans receive personally tailored support,” said Daniel F. Perkins, the developer of VTS and principal scientist at the Clearinghouse, a  Social Science Research Institute co-fund faculty, and professor of family and youth resiliency and policy in the College of Agricultural Sciences.

The webinar will address the following:

  • Learn the purpose and data-driven foundation of the VTS, developed from The Veterans Metrics Initiative (TVMI).
  • Discover how the tool can be used to support veteran clients and their families.
  • Understand the generated client-specific reports with practical, evidence-based recommendations.

The VTS equips veteran-serving providers — such as mental health counselors, social workers, case managers and career counselors — with practical insights to inform decisions and improve outcomes for veterans and their families. The tool is available online and generates personalized reports automatically for users.

To register, email VETERANetwork@psu.edu with your name, organization and position by Jan. 22. Upon registration, a meeting invitation with the Zoom link will be sent to you. For those unable to attend live, a recording will be available upon request after the webinar.
