UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — The Penn State Smeal College of Business has named Larry Goodfield Jr., a managing director at J.P. Morgan and chief financial officer and treasurer of J.P. Morgan Real Estate Income Trust Inc., to the executive committee of its Real Estate Advisory Board.

The board includes business, government and academic representatives who are interested in promoting real estate education and scholarship at Penn State. Members make a financial commitment to the college in support of Smeal’s Borrelli Institute for Real Estate Studies.

Goodfield graduated from Penn State Smeal in 2001 with a degree in accounting and began his professional career at PricewaterhouseCoopers, rising to senior manager in the audit and advisory practices with a focus on real estate.

He later held leadership roles at W.P. Carey Inc., Fortress Investment Group and Drive Shack Inc. before joining J.P. Morgan in 2022. He holds both the Certified Public Accountant and Chartered Financial Analyst designations.

Goodfield said that being a part of the Penn State Real Estate Advisory Board was a great way to support the next generation of real estate leaders.

“I’ve always been passionate about real estate and enjoy connecting with professionals who share that same enthusiasm. As a board member, I’m most excited to support students pursuing careers in real estate by serving as a mentor and resource as they navigate their academic and career journeys,” he said.

Brent Ambrose, the Jason and Julie Borrelli Faculty Chair in Real Estate and director of  the Borrelli Institute for Real Estate Studies, said he was looking forward to welcoming Goodfield during the board’s fall meeting, which will take place on the University Park campus on Sept. 26.

“Larry understands that success stems from maintaining a genuine passion for the industry and a commitment to lifelong learning. He has consistently demonstrated both over more than two decades in the field,” Ambrose said. “I’m confident his expertise will inspire our students and help shape the future of real estate education and research at Smeal.”

Goodfield said that he hopes to see Penn State Real Estate continue to grow in national prominence.

“Penn State has a reputation for producing well-rounded, innovative professionals. I’d like to see the program continue to expand and foster a strong alumni network that supports students and graduates alike,” Goodfield said. “Ultimately, I hope Penn State becomes a destination for top talent in real estate, with graduates who are making meaningful contributions to the industry. I’m thrilled to be a part of it.”

Donors and volunteers like Goodfield advance the University’s historic land-grant mission to serve and lead. Through philanthropy, alumni and friends are helping students to join the Penn State family and prepare for lifelong success; driving research, outreach and economic development; and increasing the University’s impact for students, families, patients and communities across the commonwealth and around the world.
