UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Gregory Maugeri, a project executive at real estate development and investment firm RXR, was recently named to the executive committee of the Penn State Real Estate Advisory Board.
The board includes business, government and education professionals who have an interest in promoting real estate education and scholarship at Penn State. Board members make a financial commitment to the college in support of Smeal’s Borrelli Institute for Real Estate Studies.
Maugeri earned a bachelor’s degree in supply chain and information systems from the Penn State Smeal College of Business in 2015 and a master’s degree in real estate development from Columbia University in 2018.
He began his career as a data scientist at a leading global analytics firm before transitioning to a private family office focused on opportunistic investments and real estate development across the New York City and Miami markets. He joined RXR in 2019 and, in his current role, oversees ground-up development and strategic real estate initiatives across a range of markets and asset classes.
Maugeri said that his personal experience breaking into the real estate industry inspired him to join the Penn State Real Estate Advisory Board.
“I didn’t take a linear path to real estate, but I have tried to be purposeful in how I’ve gotten involved at Smeal. In the past, that’s included guest lecturing in the real estate program, hosting students for tours of RXR properties in Manhattan and hiring Smeal students.” he said. “Joining the board formalizes my relationship with Smeal and provides the opportunity to build on my involvement and expand my impact over time.”
Brent Ambrose, professor of real estate, Jason and Julie Borrelli Faculty Chair in Real Estate and director of the Borrelli Institute for Real Estate Studies, said it’s important for Smeal students to see active development projects firsthand and hear directly from people working in the industry.
“Greg has already stepped up to support the program in a number of tangible ways, and I am pleased to welcome him to the board,” Ambrose said. “His practical knowledge, enthusiasm for development and dedication to mentoring the next generation of real estate professionals will be a great asset to the program.”
Maugeri said the board can play a part in Smeal’s Top 5 in 5 strategic plan by strengthening connections between the real estate program and the alumni and industry network that exist today.
“There are so many accomplished Penn Staters in real estate,” he said. “If we can better unite that network around the program, it can be a tremendous resource for students and an important driver of Smeal’s growth and national reputation. I’m excited to play a role in pushing Smeal into the upper echelon of public business schools.”
