UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — The Penn State Smeal College of Business recently appointed Elliott Weinstein, founder, president and CEO of Weinstein Realty Consultants, a leading real estate tax assessment consulting firm based in York, Pennsylvania, to the executive committee of its Real Estate Advisory Board.

The board includes business, government and academic representatives who are interested in promoting real estate education and scholarship at Penn State. Members make a financial commitment to the college in support of Smeal’s Borrelli Institute for Real Estate Studies.

Weinstein earned both a bachelor’s degree in accounting and a master’s in marketing from Penn State in the early 1970s and began his professional career as an accountant.

He moved to York, Pennsylvania, in 1977 to be closer to the woman he would eventually marry, Susan, and to pursue a career in real estate. Weinstein has been a licensed real estate broker for more than 50 years and also holds the MAI (Member of the Appraisal Institute) designation, reflecting his expertise in real estate valuation and analysis.

He founded Weinstein Realty Consultants in 1982 and continues his work with the firm today, focusing his time on the valuation of commercial, industrial and investment properties as well as property tax consulting for fair share assessments throughout the state.

He also held senior roles at Weinstein Israel Real Estate Group and Weinstein-Hirsh Appraisal Group — two other firms he founded.

Weinstein shares both his time and financial resources with organizations that are important to him and his wife, including Penn State Hillel; Penn State York Advisory Board; Penn State Holocaust, Genocide and Human Rights Education Initiative; and now the Penn State Real Estate Advisory Board and the Borrelli Institute for Real Estate Studies.

Weinstein is also a past member of the Penn State Board of Trustees.

Brent Ambrose, the Jason and Julie Borrelli Faculty Chair in Real Estate, director of the Borrelli Institute for Real Estate Studies and professor of risk management, said he was looking forward to welcoming Weinstein during the board’s fall meeting, which will take place on the University Park campus on Sept. 26.

“Elliott’s decades of leadership in real estate valuation and consulting, along with his deep commitment to Penn State and its mission, make him an invaluable addition to the board,” Ambrose said. “I look forward to the insights he’ll bring to shaping the future of real estate education at Smeal.”

Reflecting on the vast opportunities available to today’s students, Weinstein called it “a wonderful thing.”

“There’s nothing better than to give back, and I am blessed to be in a position to where I can have a positive impact on not just Smeal students’ education but on their college experience as a whole. I can’t wait to get started,” he said.

Donors and volunteers like Weinstein advance the University’s historic land-grant mission to serve and lead. Through philanthropy, alumni and friends are helping students to join the Penn State family and prepare for lifelong success; driving research, outreach and economic development; and increasing the University’s impact for students, families, patients and communities across the commonwealth and around the world.
