SHARON, Pa. — On Tuesday, Feb. 3, the Penn State Shenango men’s and women’s basketball teams will host rival Penn State Beaver at the Buhl Club in Sharon beginning at 5:30 p.m. At halftime of both games, students from Shenango’s Student-Athlete Advisory Council (SAAC) are hosting a 3-point shot challenge to raise money for THON and childhood cancer research.

All game attendees can participate in the “3’s for THON” fundraiser. A donation of $2 earns one shot, and a $5 donation is worth three shots. Participants who make a 3-point shot receive a free THON t-shirt, with additional surprise prizes available. All proceeds benefit Four Diamonds at Penn State Health Children’s Hospital.

THON is Penn State’s student-run dance marathon and philanthropy event, which has raised more than $254 million to date. Four Diamonds at Penn State Health Children’s Hospital supports families by offsetting the cost of treatment and also provides funding for cancer research through the Penn State College of Medicine.

“It’s more than just a game — it brings people together for something bigger,” said Bri Krenzer, women’s basketball player and female athlete representative for the Penn State Shenango SAAC. “Knowing it supports children and families through Four Diamonds makes it all worth it.”

SAAC is a student organization that works to plan events, support campus initiatives, and gives athletes a voice while promoting leadership, service and community involvement.

“Being part of THON is an incredible experience,” Krenzer said. “Seeing students, athletes and the community come together for one cause is inspiring, and it’s rewarding to know our efforts truly make a difference.”

Attendees interested in supporting the "3’s for THON" fundraiser but who would not like to participate in the 3-point challenge will have the opportunity to make donations at the ticket table.

The women’s basketball game tips off at 5:30 p.m., followed by the men’s game at 7:30 p.m.
