Penn State Scranton Corporate Communication students recognized for achievements

DUNMORE, Pa. – High-achieving students in Penn State Scranton’s corporate communication program were recently recognized for their academic excellence and professional accomplishments during a special induction ceremony for the campus’ Alpha Epsilon Rho and Lambda Pi Eta honor societies, with some students also receiving awards from the Pennsylvania Press Club for communications-related projects they submitted.

The ceremony brought together faculty, staff, alumni, family and friends to celebrate students who demonstrated outstanding scholarship, leadership and commitment to the field of communication.

To qualify for membership in either honor society, students must meet rigorous academic standards and show sustained dedication to their studies within the communication discipline. All photos from the ceremony are free to view and download on Penn State Scranton’s Flickr.

Alpha Epsilon Rho

Alpha Epsilon Rho is an international scholastic honor society that recognizes academic achievement among students in electronic media fields, including web and internet technologies, broadcasting, mass communication, radio, television, cable and film. The society operates as part of the larger Broadcast Education Association (BEA).

Eligibility for Alpha Epsilon Rho requires students to rank in the upper third of their college class with a cumulative GPA of 3.3 or higher, including a 3.3 GPA in all electronic media coursework. Students must also complete a minimum of three semester-long electronic media or media-related courses.

Stephanie Longo, assistant professor of corporate communication, serves as the Alpha Epsilon Rho adviser and inducted the new members.

Founded in 1943, Alpha Epsilon Rho was originally established by students at Stephens College and later expanded through collaboration with institutions such as Syracuse University and the University of Minnesota. The organization was admitted into the Association of College Honor Societies in 2009.

Lambda Pi Eta

Lambda Pi Eta is the official national honor society for outstanding students in communication, established by the National Communication Association. Founded in 1985 at the University of Arkansas, the society now has more than 600 chapters nationwide and was inducted into the Association of College Honor Societies in 1996.

To be eligible for membership, students must have completed at least 60 undergraduate credit hours, including 12 credits in communication courses. Members must be enrolled full-time, maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher and earn at least a 3.25 GPA in their communication coursework.
