SCHUYLKILL HAVEN, Pa. — Penn State Schuylkill’s Art Space will present its next exhibition, “Tradition Renewed,” featuring works by artist Eric Armusik, his apprentices and select students from the Armusik Academy of Classical Art. The exhibit will run from Nov. 3 through Dec. 19, with a Meet the Artists Night scheduled for Wednesday, Nov. 6, from 5 to 7 p.m.
Known for his masterful figurative paintings inspired by the Old Masters, Armusik’s work captures the drama and emotion of the human experience through a classical lens. His art, described as both powerful and timeless, blends technical excellence with deep storytelling.
“Painting for me is about more than form and light,” said Armusik. “It’s about portraying profound human moments — the joy, sorrow, and resilience that connect us across cultures and time.”
A graduate of Penn State University with a bachelor of fine arts degree in painting and a minor in art history, Armusik studied abroad in Italy, drawing inspiration from artists like Caravaggio, Michelangelo and Artemisia Gentileschi. Over his career, he has gained international recognition, with his work featured in the New York Times, the Wall Street Journal, Fine Art Connoisseur and other major publications. He is also an Associate Living Master recognized by the Art Renewal Center and the founder of the Armusik Academy of Classical Art, where he trains students from around the world.
Joining Armusik in the exhibition are several of his apprentices and students:
- Marky Barto, whose classical realist paintings are inspired by Old Master traditions and infused with a global perspective shaped by her travels through Europe.
- Nadija Armusik, the artist’s daughter, whose work combines Gothic surrealism with metallic accents, creating ethereal compositions that explore the intersection of beauty, nature, and mystery.
- Claire Hess, a rising artist developing a fantasy-inspired series rooted in medieval themes, inviting viewers into immersive, dreamlike worlds.
Together, their works embody the spirit of “Tradition Renewed” — a celebration of timeless artistry reborn through new generations of painters dedicated to preserving classical techniques while forging their own creative paths.
