SCHUYLKILL HAVEN, Pa. — Penn State Schuylkill students have new spaces to relax and stay active this semester thanks to renovations to the campus game room and fitness center.
The Student Government Association (SGA) spearheaded the game room project, moving it to a larger space and adding new equipment to create a more inviting hangout spot.
The new game room features a wide variety of upgrades, including:
- Ping pong, air hockey and foosball tables
- A newly felted billiards table with updated pool sticks
- PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X consoles with games and controllers
- An Arcade 1Up Infinity Game Table
- An electronic dartboard and an 85-inch Sony TV
- Couches, bean-bag loungers, and chairs
- Coffee and end tables for group hangouts or study sessions
- A custom neon sign that reads "Penn State Schuylkill"
SGA President Zachary Fisher said the project started with a resolution and a survey to make sure student voices were heard.
“We wanted to create a chill and welcoming space where students can unwind and have fun with their friends,” Fisher said. “Our biggest goal was to design a room that feels centralized and inviting, while adding resources students really wanted to see.”
Fisher said his favorite new feature is the bean-bag chairs, calling them “so cozy, it’s a wonderful place to relax or get work done in comfort.” Looking ahead, SGA hopes to host events such as Penn State Football watch parties and karaoke nights in the upgraded space.
Alongside the game room renovations, the campus fitness center also received significant upgrades to enhance the student experience. The fitness center now features:
- Nike Dumbbells, kettlebells and racks
- A Nike half rack and squat cage with spotter arms and dip stations
- Nike pro urethane plates, barbell holders and plate trees
- Nike flat weight benches
- A Precor Smith Machine, Rogue Echo Bike v3.0, Rogue trap bar and an Olympic deadlift platform
“Penn State Schuylkill is committed to providing students with well-rounded experiences,” said Bryan Valentine, chief student affairs officer and director of student affairs and athletics. “Enhancing both recreational and wellness spaces ensures that students have the resources they need to succeed academically and personally.”
With both the game room and fitness center updates, Penn State Schuylkill continues to expand opportunities for students to connect, recharge and prioritize their well-being, Valentine said.
