SCHUYLKILL HAVEN, Pa. — Penn State Schuylkill will celebrate the opening of Art Space’s new location with a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 4:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 22, in the Classroom Building, Room 100.
The event will welcome members of the campus and local community and will be held in partnership with the Schuylkill Chamber of Commerce. Attendees will have the opportunity to tour the newly furnished Art Space and learn more about its role in supporting arts and culture at Penn State Schuylkill.
Remarks during the ceremony will be delivered by Cory Scherer, interim chancellor of Penn State Schuylkill, and Bob Carl, president and CEO of the Schuylkill Chamber of Commerce and president of the Penn State Schuylkill Advisory Board.
“Penn State Schuylkill’s commitment to the arts reflects the broader Penn State mission to enrich student life and enhance the quality of life across the communities it serves,” said Carl. “Several years ago, the campus took an important step by establishing a dedicated art space, and the expansion into the new Art Space marks an exciting next chapter. This new facility will provide expanded opportunities to support arts and culture on campus while serving as a creative resource for the greater Schuylkill County community. The Penn State Advisory Board and the Schuylkill Chamber of Commerce commend Penn State Schuylkill for its continued investment in artistic expression and for creating a space that brings students, educators, and the community together through the arts.”
Following the ribbon cutting, guests are invited to remain for an artist reception and gallery talk with Ibiyinka “Ibi” Alao, whose exhibition will be on display in Art Space. Alao’s work will be available for viewing during the reception, offering attendees an opportunity to engage with the artist and learn more about his creative process.
The ceremony marks an important milestone for Art Space as it enters a new chapter in its updated location, continuing its mission to bring meaningful artistic experiences to campus and the surrounding community.
