UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — The Schreyer Honors College Distinguished Honors Faculty Program (DHFP) is a unique offering that brings together Schreyer Scholars and Penn State faculty for deep discussions around a topic area of interest.

The college is currently accepting applications for faculty to join the program for the upcoming fall semester.

The role of a DHFP faculty member is to engage a broad spectrum of Scholars in an out-of-classroom discussion typically taking place over dinner at a downtown restaurant or including a visit to on-campus or nearby locations, such as a research lab, art gallery or concert. Faculty serve a two-year term and commit to offering one event per semester. They are allocated funds to support their vision. To preview past programs, visit our student programs webpage.

“The DHFP model is powerful because it benefits our Scholars and the faculty members. It’s an opportunity for Scholars, and especially first-year Scholars, to explore areas of interest beyond their intended major. It can open their eyes to research and how that can look different across disciplines,” said Laura Rotunno, associate dean for academic affairs of the Schreyer Honors College. “For faculty, it can be invigorating to share their research passions and engage with students from a wide variety of academic colleges and majors.”

Interested faculty should send a curriculum vita (CV) and a one-to-two-page proposal on how they wish to engage Scholars to Rhonda Demchak, rrr11@psu.edu, by Monday, Aug. 4.

The DHFP is funded through a gift from Art and Betty Glenn. Art graduated with a bachelor of science degree in mechanical engineering in 1956, and Betty graduated with bachelor of science degree in home economics in 1957. Art is a volunteer and supporter of Penn State and the Schreyer Honors College. He served for many years on the External Advisory Board for the Honors College.
