McKEESPORT, Pa. — Six Penn State students presented their summer research at the fourth annual Allegheny Health Network-Penn State (AHN PSU) Research Day, held Aug. 5 at Allegheny Health Network Research Institute (AHNRI).
The event began in 2022 as a collaboration between Penn State’s Underrepresented in Clinical Research Training (UCRT) program and Allegheny Health Network interns. Andrea Stevens, assistant professor of microbiology at Penn State Greater Allegheny, co-created the event with UCRT leadership to showcase the interns’ research, provide professional experience and support career development. The program is housed at Penn State Greater Allegheny.
The 2025 cohort included three University Park students, two of whom began their studies at Greater Allegheny, as well as one student from Penn State New Kensington and two current Greater Allegheny students. The audience included UCRT program leadership, mentors, physician-scientists and senior executives, among them the heads of AHNRI and AHN.
Two former UCRT interns, Olivia Moore and Korrine McCutcheon, both 2024 graduates of Penn State Greater Allegheny and the UCRT program, now serve as mentors to the current class. Both are employed full time as clinical research coordinators at AHNRI.
