UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Sustain Penn State will welcome Sarah Dimick, author of “Unseasonable: Climate Change in Global Literatures,” for a book reading and keynote talk on Feb. 9 and 10 as part of its Spring 2026 Sustainability Showcase series.

Dimick is a professor of English and of environmental policy and culture at Northwestern University. Her work explores how people around the world make sense of climate change as a disruption to everyday routines and shared understandings of time, and how those narratives can help build solidarity with communities most vulnerable to climate impacts.

Dimick will read from “Unseasonable” and participate in a Q&A session from 6-7 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 9 at Webster’s Bookstore Cafe. A free appetizer buffet will be available beginning at 5:30 p.m. The event is free and open to the public, with a virtual attendance option available by completing this book reading pre-registration form.

Her visit will continue with a keynote talk from 4-5 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 10 in Foster Auditorium or online. Register to attend the keynote virtually at this link.

“Sarah is the perfect speaker to kick off our spring series,” said Julius Camper, student and public programming coordinator for Sustain Penn State. “‘Unseasonable’ effortlessly explains the worldwide impact of climate change while making space for the human stories within it.”

Dimick’s work brings together global literature, environmental humanities and climate justice, Camper said, highlighting how storytelling can reshape public understanding of climate change and strengthen collective responses to environmental risk.

The Sustainability Showcase series brings scholars, practitioners and community leaders to campus each semester to explore interdisciplinary approaches to sustainability through lectures, conversations and creative work. More information about the series and virtual attendance options are available on the Sustainability Showcase website.
