UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Penn State's new Global Safety Network (GSN) is now available to the University community.
The GSN underwent a platform change over the summer, as previously announced in Penn State News, after a planned outage the first two weeks of August.
The new GSN platform provides a more intuitive, user-friendly experience while streamlining travel registration and review for faster, more efficient processing.
First-time users:
- First-time users must wait 24 hours after they’ve created their profile before creating a travel record.
- Creating a travel record before this process is complete will result in no forms being assigned, requiring you to reenter your travel record once the process is complete.
- This 24-hour period allows your Penn State profile information to fully synchronize with your new GSN profile.
Users can expect:
- Integration with Penn State’s ISOS communications platform for real-time health, safety and security travel alerts.
- Enhanced traveler preparation resources, including embedded training videos, PDFs and destination-specific guidance.
- A streamlined travel submission process with fewer questions and reduced duplicate data entry.
- Improved workflow that better coordinates approvals across stakeholder offices.
- Simplified group travel management.
- Faster trip creation through itinerary import capabilities, including the ability to paste travel confirmations.
- Greater flexibility for travelers to update itineraries without automatically triggering re-approvals.
- A shift from a compliance-focused system to a traveler-centric platform that emphasizes usability, engagement, and traveler safety.
All University international business travel is required to be entered into the GSN, including travel to Canada and Mexico. Personal and domestic travel, including to U.S. territories, does not require GSN registration.
