UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Additional details are now available for the transition to a new platform for Penn State’s Global Safety Network (GSN) by the start of the fall 2026 semester, as previously announced in Penn State News.
The current GSN system will remain open until close of business on July 31. The system will then be unavailable between Aug. 1 and Aug.16. During this period, new travel records cannot be created or submitted. This means that University-affiliated travel occurring during the month of August will need to be entered in the current GSN system by July 31.
The new Global Safety Network platform will launch on Aug. 17. In order to sign up for the new system, users will be required to create a new profile after the launch. New user profiles are subject to a 24-hour waiting period after activation before any new travel entries can be made, so users are encouraged to plan ahead.
The GSN is a required step in the international travel process for all Penn State students, faculty, staff or authorized volunteers, except for those traveling on education abroad programs.
The new system will be hosted by Via and is designed to provide a more intuitive and user-friendly experience. The upgrade is intended to streamline the travel documentation process for Penn State-affiliated travelers while also improving the efficiency of internal review and processing. As a result, users can expect a smoother experience and faster turnaround times.
Travel records submitted before Aug. 1 will continue to be processed during the transition. Additional information, including user guides and implementation updates, will be available on the Global Safety webpage before the new system launches.
