TC Energy Corp. awards grant to Penn College

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Pennsylvania College of Technology recently received a $75,000 grant from a major North American energy company.

TC Energy Corp., through its Build Strong program, awarded the grant in support of mechatronics education and the college’s dual-enrollment efforts. The grant will fund the purchase of equipment and technology for the college’s mechatronics majors and help absorb costs of dual enrollment, which allows qualified high school students to earn free college credits.

“TC Energy is committed to supporting STEM and trades programs in colleges across the U.S. in order to prepare students to become future energy problem solvers,” said Trevence Mitchell, social impact manager at TC Energy.

“We are grateful for the steadfast support from TC Energy to enhance the skills of our mechatronics students,” said Kyle A. Smith, senior executive director of College Relations. “TC Energy understands the value of a Penn College degree and the applied technology education experience that we provide. The company demonstrates a commitment to education and its industry through investments in our programs, which help our graduates emerge as workforce leaders.”

Penn College offers a bachelor’s degree in automation engineering technology: mechatronicsand an associate degree in mechatronics technology. Mechatronics integrates electrical, mechanical and computer engineering.

“This grant funding from TC Energy will significantly impact the students’ experience and their future opportunities by allowing us to add updated technology to our program,” said Randall L. Moser, assistant professor of electronics and computer engineering technology. “Our students enter specialty manufacturing fields that require strong knowledge of vision systems and related technologies that span a variety of industries, including energy. This funding will help our students grow their skill sets to meet workforce needs.”

Headquartered in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, TC Energy is a leading energy infrastructure company with operations in natural gas, oil and power industries. Its most recent gift to Penn College moves the company to the Visionary Society ($100,000-$499,999) on the school’s Donor Wall.
