WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – A Pennsylvania College of Technology student is one of a dozen nationwide to receive a scholarship awarded by ESAB Corp. and the American Welding Society Foundation.

Clayton J. Fegley, of McClure, earned the $5,000 scholarship through ESAB’s Future Fabricators Program. The initiative supports aspiring welders and fabricators by funding AWS Foundation scholarships. Fegley is seeking a bachelor’s degree in welding & fabrication engineering technology.

A dean’s list student, Fegley was part of a three-person Penn College team that won gold in the welding fabrication competition at the national SkillsUSA Championships, held in Atlanta in June.

According to the AWS, the U.S. must fill 80,000 welding jobs annually through 2029 due to an aging workforce and dearth of young talent.
