WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. — A group of students and faculty from Northern Ireland are set to visit Pennsylvania College of Technology this month, exploring the college’s industry-standard labs, interacting with students, and taking in local sites as they immerse in northcentral Pennsylvania life.
This is the third year a group from North West Regional College has made a visit to the college. This year’s contingent of 10 students and two faculty is set to visit April 7-22 and spend most of their time at Penn College.
“We’re excited to once again welcome our partners from NWRC to campus and the Williamsport area,” said Anthony J. Pace, vice president for enrollment & academic operations. “The relationship between NWRC and Penn College continues to develop each year and offers students and faculty from both institutions incredible opportunities to learn from one another.”
North West Regional College consists of five campuses in Northern Ireland and enrolls more than 10,000 students, studying a range of vocational and nonvocational subjects. The students visiting Penn College are taking part in apprenticeships in manufacturing/welding and electrical/building automation.
Penn College offers degrees in welding, electrical and building automation engineering technology.
While on campus, the visiting group will sit in on classes and labs, participate in a career services workshop, learn how the college’s Workforce Development department and Plastics Innovation & Resource Center serve industry, and interact with students and faculty during a variety of extracurricular activities.
The itinerary also includes industry tours by NRG Controls, PMF Industries and West Pharmaceutical Services, as well as a tour of Penn State’s Beaver Stadium and its Engineering Design and Innovation Building. The group is planning visits to the Williamsport Growers Market, a hike to explore the area’s natural beauty, and outings at local shops, restaurants and other attractions.
The NWRC students will conclude their visit with a presentation to the college community.
The first NWRC group to visit the college consisted of students in health science and social care majors. Last year’s group was split between cybersecurity and engineering/mechatronics students.
