WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. — Renata Engel, vice president for Commonwealth Campuses and executive chancellor at Penn State, joined the Pennsylvania College of Technology Board of Directors. Engel was appointed to the Penn College Board by the Corporation for Penn State. The college is a special mission affiliate of the university.
Engel attended her first board meeting on Oct. 9.
Engel leverages her decades of leadership experience at Penn State in her oversight of Penn State’s Commonwealth Campuses. She has served in faculty roles including professor of engineering mechanics and engineering design, as well as administrative roles including vice provost for Online Education. Engel has championed and supported collaborative initiatives with administration, faculty and staff to positively impact Penn State.
In her most recent role as vice president for Online Education, Engel sought to create a diverse and comprehensive portfolio of online degree programs with participation from all Penn State campuses and colleges, including a portfolio of professional and graduate programs led by Penn State Great Valley, the launch of the Penn State online MBA led by the Smeal College of Business, and a doctor of education from the College of Education, among numerous others.
Engel’s dedication to student success is evident in her leadership and advocacy for five innovative programs designed to support students through financial, academic and personal challenges on their path to earning a degree. Her commitment was further demonstrated with the launch of the Penn State World Campus Chaiken Center for Student Success earlier this year, a milestone she proudly oversaw.
Engel is a native of Connellsville and started her education as an undergraduate at Penn State Fayette before graduating from the University Park campus with a bachelor’s degree in engineering science. She completed a doctorate in engineering mechanics from the University of South Florida.
