WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – An article by Lisa M. Dostick, clinical supervisor of Pennsylvania College of Technology’s radiography program, was featured in Radiologic Technology Review, a student-focused magazine published by Radiologix.

Dostick’s article: “Administration of Contrast: Understanding Your Role as a Future Technologist,” appeared in the magazine’s January/February 2025 issue.

In the article, she details potential patient reactions to the use of contrast media – a pharmacological substance that temporarily changes the way X-rays or other imaging technologies interact with the body – and the role a radiologic technologist plays in ensuring patients’ safety. That includes diligently asking about allergies, looking for other risk factors in a patient’s medical history, and recognizing and reporting adverse reactions when they happen.

“As future radiologic technologists, you are an important part of the health team in the administration and monitoring of contrast media for imaging,” she wrote. “Proper education and preparation is key to the patient’s safety. Oftentimes, technologists are frontline observers of serious or unexpected reactions. … You are the patient’s advocate for safely introducing and imaging with contrast media.”

Dostick, who has been employed by Penn College since 2022, holds American Registry of Radiologic Technologists credentials in radiography, mammography, magnetic resonance imaging and computerized tomography.

Her experience includes work in radiography, CT, MRI and mammography throughout the Geisinger and UPMC health care systems, and as an MRI technologist for Open MRI in Williamsport and Susquehanna Valley Medical Specialties in Bloomsburg.

She is pursuing a master’s in education from Penn State, with anticipated graduation in Spring 2025. She holds a bachelor’s degree in healthcare leadership from Clarion University and an associate degree in radiography from Mansfield University.

Penn College offers an associate degree in radiography that can be continued to an online bachelor’s degree in healthcare leadership & administration. To learn more, call 570-327-4520 or visit www.pct.edu/radiography.
