UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Students who have participated in an experiential learning opportunity through Penn State programs are encouraged to apply to present their work through lightning talks and poster sessions at the 2026 Experiential Learning Showcase. The application deadline is Oct. 14.
The Experiential Learning Showcase, hosted by Penn State Outreach, will take place from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. on Nov. 11 at the HUB-Robeson Center at Penn State University Park. The showcase is designed to celebrate the impact of experiential learning on students who have been connected to meaningful, real-world learning experiences through University programs.
Michael Zeman, director of experiential learning for Outreach, said presentations are a part of the learning cycle for students that we rarely talk about.
"When students step up to present at the Experiential Learning Showcase, they are doing much more than summarizing a project, they are completing the learning cycle,” Zeman said. “Communicating your impact publicly forces you to translate raw experience into meaningful growth. It’s the moment where students stop seeing themselves as just learners and start recognizing the real-world value, data and results they bring to their communities and future careers."
Doctoral student Emma Steely presented her work as a Keystone Community Scholar at the 2025 Experiential Learning Showcase. She said the event allowed her to share her work’s impact, connect with others and strengthen her ability to communicate research to diverse audiences.
“In my career, I hope to be a clear and efficient speaker to a variety of stakeholders and relay academic information clearly, with enthusiasm, so everyone can benefit from the knowledge,” Steely said. “It also felt wonderful to see all the professors and faculty that came out to support this work and seeing the variety of activities and projects that students are involved in. It is a great way to show all the opportunities that are available here at Penn State.”
Participants from a wide range of Penn State programs and partnerships are encouraged to apply. Visit the Experiential Learning Showcase web page for details about student eligibility and qualifications to participate.
