Commonwealth Commitment Awards celebrate faculty, staff and land-grant mission

Nominations are open through April 6

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Faculty and staff members from all Penn State campuses can nominate themselves or a colleague for one of the newly created Commonwealth Commitment Awards. The Inspiring Discovery Award, Preparing Students Award and Serving Pennsylvania Award were established by the Office of the Vice President for Penn State Outreach.

Nominations will be accepted until April 6 through the Penn State Outreach Awards webpage. Recipients will receive a $2,000 stipend and recognition at an annual awards celebration.

“The Commonwealth Commitment Awards celebrate faculty and staff members whose work builds on the University’s land-grant mission by extending their teaching, research and service to achieve significant and measurable impact for students and Pennsylvania communities,” said Larry Terry, vice president for Penn State Outreach.

The Commonwealth Commitment Awards are:

  • The Inspiring Discovery Award recognizes faculty or staff who create access to learning, enrichment or creative experiences that broaden perspectives and strengthen communities.
  • The Preparing Students Award celebrates work that poises students for civic and professional success through experiential learning, mentorship and applied engagement.
  • The Serving Pennsylvania Award recognizes teaching, research and/or service that creates significant impact for Pennsylvania residents, organizations and communities.

One Commonwealth Commitment Award recipient may also be named Penn State’s nominee for the W.K. Kellogg Foundation Community Engagement Scholarship Award (Northeast Region), sponsored by the Association of Public and Land-Grant Universities.
