11:30 AM / June 13, 2026 - 3:00 PM / June 14, 2026
UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — To commemorate America’s 250th anniversary, WPSU will host free public screenings of "The Whiskey Rebellion,” an original WPSU production, at multiple locations across the viewing area.
The Blair County premiere will be held during Fort Roberdeau Legacy Weekend from 11:30 a.m. – 2:30 p.m. on June 13 and at 1 p.m. on June 14, at Fort Roberdeau in Altoona.
Additional public screenings are scheduled for locations in western Pennsylvania, including at the Bradford House in Washington and the Arc Human Services and Chicco Baccello in Canonsburg.
“The Whiskey Rebellion,” syndicated by American Public Television (APT), will premiere on WPSU at 9 p.m. on June 8. Viewers can check local listings for additional broadcasts in their area as well as the PBS app for streaming information.
WPSU was awarded a $200,000 grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) to support the development and distribution of the 30-minute documentary that explores the complex and interwoven relationship between citizen protest and federal authority that occurred during the Whiskey Rebellion, which largely centered on events in western Pennsylvania from 1791 to 1794.
WPSU senior producer Kristian Berg served as the producer, director and writer and traveled with a crew across Pennsylvania to interview historians and film reenactments to tell this story.
"We knew this story was special and holds a significant place in our nation's history,” said Mindy McMahon, executive producer. “It was an honor to bring this to our viewing audience.”
WPSU-TV, a PBS member station, serves 24 counties in central Pennsylvania and reaches 515,000 households, and WPSU-FM is accessible to more than 450,000 listeners in 13 counties. The public media station also includes WPSU Digital Studios, which offers original web series that explore science, arts and culture.
