UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Penn State instructors are invited to the inaugural meeting of the new Teaching Community on “Advancing Innovation in Tech-Free Teaching and Assessment Strategies.” This is a community for instructors who currently use, or are interested in using, tech-free teaching strategies. This Teaching Community will focus on:
- Discussing tech-free teaching and assessment strategies that improve learning
- Identifying strategies to foster student buy-in for tech-free classes
- Learning how to adopt tech-free teaching tools — for an entire course or class period — that maintain accessibility for all
The inaugural meeting will take place on Monday, Oct. 20, from 2:30 to 3:30 pm in Room 312, Biobehavioral Health Building at University Park. A hybrid option will be available for those who are not able to join in person. Registration for either in-person or hybrid attendance is requested using this link.
If you are not able to attend the inaugural meeting but are interested in joining the Teaching Community’s email list, please contact Danielle Rhubart at dcr185@psu.edu.
This community is supported by the Schreyer Institute for Teaching Excellence. The Teaching Community Program is still accepting applications for new Teaching Communities for the 2025-26 academic year. A list of current Teaching Communities can be found in our directory. All communities are open to new members, and interested instructors should reach out to the leader of the teaching community.
