Penn State publishes 2025 Drinking Water Quality Report

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Penn State’s Office of Physical Plant (OPP) recently issued its annual Drinking Water Quality Report for University Park. OPP routinely monitors the University’s drinking water and the full report can be viewed on the OPP website.

Drinking water for the campus is produced at the University Water Treatment Plant, where the water undergoes microfiltration, granular activated carbon adsorption, and nanofiltration treatment to produce drinking water of the highest quality for the campus. Water sampling required by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) is conducted at the Water Treatment Plant and throughout the water distribution system in the interest of community safety and regulatory compliance.

In 2025, Penn State’s drinking water met all state and federal health-based drinking water standards, and no water quality violations were identified.

The report also notes two administrative reporting violations related to the submission timing of chlorine residual monitoring data. The issue resulted from a reporting process miscommunication and did not impact water quality, treatment operations, or public health. Penn State worked directly with PA DEP to address the matter and implement corrective measures to ensure continued compliance with reporting requirements.
