UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — The Penn State Ross and Carol Nese College of Nursing’s Tressa Nese and Helen Diskevich Center of Geriatric Nursing Excellence (CGNE) will hold its 12th annual Alumni & Friends Spring Brunch event on Saturday, March 22, at the Nittany Lion Inn.

The annual event offers attendees an opportunity to meet the CGNE team, gerontological faculty, affiliated students and collaborative partners. Participants also will learn more about the center’s impact in education, research, and translation of best practice and services; hear from Nese College of Nursing Dean Laurie Badzek; and celebrate student and community champions.

This year’s celebration will focus on age-friendly healthcare — how communities, campuses, clinicians and care partners can learn about challenges facing aging populations and support strategies to improve the lives and quality of care for all generations, particularly older adults.

Keynote speaker, Laura Poskin, will present, “Advancing Age-Friendly Across the Commonwealth.” Poskin is a gerontologist and passionate advocate who currently serves as executive director of Age-Friendly Pittsburgh, a leader in the World Health Organization and the AARP Network. Over the past nine years, she has built a coalition of 120+ organizations — in the field of aging and beyond — and inspired neighbors to be more inclusive and respectful of all ages. Poskin is currently advising the launch of Age-Friendly Pennsylvania. She began her career in media, with editorial roles at People, Jane and Good Housekeeping magazines. During graduate work at Miami University in Ohio and Mahidol University in Bangkok, Thailand, she studied aging and demographic change from Western and Eastern perspectives.

The event will be from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and is open to the public. Registration is required by March 14. Detail and a link can be found here.

This Nursing Continuing Professional Development program has been submitted for 1.0 contact hours for participants who hold a valid RN license and attend the entire program; partial contact hours are not awarded.
