UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — The Liberal Arts Undergraduate Council (LAUC) is continuing its 50th anniversary celebration this spring with new opportunities for students, alumni and the broader Penn State community to connect and reflect on the organization’s legacy.

As part of the milestone year, LAUC launched a limited-time, online website, open through Feb. 1, featuring apparel and accessories designed to celebrate 50 years of student leadership and advocacy within the College of the LIberal Arts. Visit the LAUC website for more information.

The anniversary celebration will continue with a virtual alumni panel from 5 to 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 11. The event will bring together Liberal Arts alumni to share how their academic experiences and involvement with LAUC helped shape their personal, academic and professional paths. The event is open to all Liberal Arts students and is one of eight events happening during Love Liberal Arts Week. Advance registration is required.

“The Liberal Arts Undergraduate Council has not only been an important incubator of student leadership in our college, but it also has been a key vehicle for promoting a larger liberal arts identity across our many majors in the humanities and social sciences,” said Clarence Lang, Susan Welch Dean of the College of the Liberal Arts. “LAUC’s perseverance has been a signal achievement for the college, and I look forward to seeing how the council will continue to thrive, connect us with alumni and, most importantly, serve the interests of our current students.”

Founded in 1975, LAUC serves as the official student governing body for undergraduates in the College of the Liberal Arts, providing representation, advocacy and programming that enhance the student experience. Throughout the anniversary year, the organization has highlighted its history while creating new opportunities for connection across generations of Liberal Arts students and alumni.

“The 50th anniversary has given us a chance not only to look back, but to intentionally create space for students to learn from alumni who once sat in their shoes,” said Mackenzie Watters, vice president of marketing for LAUC and a second-year student double-majoring in psychology and advertising/public relations. “The upcoming alumni panel event will be a great opportunity for students to connect with past liberal arts students, hear about their Penn State experience, and find encouragement hearing about all the amazing things they've been up to post-grad.”
