CENTER VALLEY, Pa. — Penn State Lehigh Valley Interim Athletic Director Sarah Hendricks announced Dec. 8 that Todd Askins has been named the next women’s basketball coach at Penn State Lehigh Valley.
“We are thrilled to welcome Coach Askins to Penn State Lehigh Valley,” said Hendricks. “His genuine passion for the game and dedication to developing student-athletes is exactly what we need as we focus on the continued growth and success of our women’s basketball program.”
Askins brings more than 20 years of coaching experience to Penn State Lehigh Valley, with roles at both the collegiate and high school levels. His career has been defined by revitalizing programs, elevating performance and building winning cultures rooted in player development and deep knowledge of the game.
“I am incredibly excited to join the Penn State Lehigh Valley community,” said Askins. “The opportunity to rebuild a women’s basketball program is a challenge I fully embrace. We look forward to attracting student-athletes who are committed to academic success, competitive growth, and building a winning culture.”
Most recently an assistant coach with the Wilson College women’s basketball program, Askins transitioned directly from a highly successful tenure as head girls’ varsity basketball coach at Bermudian Springs High School. There, he led a historic turnaround — qualifying for the PIAA District III playoffs in six of his seven seasons and securing three state playoff appearances. His accomplishments ended an eight-year district drought and a 22-year state playoff absence. His leadership culminated in the 2021–2022 season with Bermudian’s first-ever Adams/York County Championship.
During his seven seasons, Askins compiled a 113–60 record, coached five of the program’s nine 1,000-point scorers, and earned numerous coaching honors, including Adams County Divisional Coach of the Year (2019), York/Adams County Coach of the Year (2022), and Pennsylvania State Coach of the Year for PIAA 4A Girls Basketball (2022). His coaching background also includes experience within the Carlisle Area and Cumberland Valley School Districts.
Askins said he views his position not only through a basketball lens but as a community-focused opportunity to support student-athlete growth on and off the court.
“Our plan is to reestablish a program that the entire Lehigh Valley can be proud of,” he said. “One built on hard work, high expectations, and personal accountability.”
Askins lives in Carlisle, Pennsylvania, with his wife, Jodi. They have two daughters: Alexa (a graduate of Towson University, 2022) and Julianna (a graduate of Wilkes University, 2025).
