MILAN, Italy — Penn State women's ice hockey player Tessa Janecke netted gold with Team USA at the 2026 Milano-Cortina Winter Olympic Games on Feb. 19.

The United States rallied from a 1-0 deficit through much of the game to eventually defeated Canada, 2-1, in overtime.

Team USA went undefeated in Olympic tournament play — the last time the United States achieved gold without a loss was 1998.

Janecke is a senior forward with the Nittany Lions and the first Penn State women's ice hockey player to be named to the U.S. Olympic ice hockey team.

At Penn State, the Orangeville, Illinois, native has the most career points at 180 in 131 games played. Her 74 goals are tied for the most in program history and her 106 assists are also a program record.

Three other Penn State women's ice hockey players also participated in this year's Winter Olympics: Sophomore forward Nicole Hall for Sweden, freshman forward Matilde Fantin for Italy, and alumna Jessica Adolfsson for Sweden.
