Phillies’ legend Larry Bowa to serve as keynote speaker at Brandywine fundraiser

MEDIA Pa. — Philadelphia Phillies legend Larry Bowa will serve as the keynote speaker during Penn State Brandywine Athletics’ "Field of Dreams" fundraiser on Saturday, Nov. 7.

The fundraiser will take place in the Commons/Athletic Center gym on campus from 6 to 9 p.m. on Nov. 7. Tickets to the event are $100 and include a buffet dinner and a question and answer session with Bowa following his keynote address. Tickets must be purchased in advance and are on sale through Oct. 31.

In addition, Brandywine Athletics will have 25 baskets being raffled throughout the night.

Brandywine is raising money for a two-part turf field project on campus. Part one is an all-turf softball field, while part two includes a multi-sport turf facility that will serve as the home of the Brandywine baseball and men’s and women’s soccer teams. Currently, Brandywine does not have on-campus facilities for baseball and softball.

Bowa was a 12-year member of the Phillies and played 15 years overall during his Major League Baseball career. He was the starting shortstop on the Phillies’ first World Series-winning team in 1980. Following his retirement, Bowa coached for five Major League organizations, including a four-year stint as Phillies head coach from 2001-04. Bowa currently serves in a senior advisory role for the Phillies.
