UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Zoom has issued a critical update to the Zoom client application. All Penn State-managed devices will automatically receive the updated client. Those using personal or unmanaged devices will need to manually update their Zoom client to meet the version requirement by Aug. 19, 2026.
To reduce disruption during the update period, Penn State has temporarily disabled the annotation feature until the version requirement takes effect on Aug. 19. During this time, annotation will be unavailable in both meetings and whiteboards.
Anyone who needs annotation functionality should consider using an alternative, such as MS Teams Whiteboard.
How to avoid a disruption
- Review Needs: If you require the annotation function, make alternative plans. Ex: MS Teams Whiteboard.
- Review Version: Confirm you have the updated Zoom client. Your client version must show either v7.0.6 or v7.1.5.
- Update Zoom (if necessary): Update your Zoom client if it does not match the required version.
- Report Issues: Contact the IT Service Desk if you experience unexpected meeting disruptions.
