UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — The 2026 Penn State IT United Way Golf Tournament raised more than $135,000 for Centre County United Way (CCUW) this fall, surpassing last year's total by $12,000. Over the past 15 years, the annual tournament has generated nearly $825,000 to support local programs and services offered through the United Way.
"We are incredibly grateful to Penn State IT for holding this tournament every year. The proceeds help United Way's investment in programs and initiatives focused on education, health and financial stability for our Centre County neighbors," said Megan Evans, CCUW executive director. "Each year, the tournament is a major contributor to the University's United Way campaign, and this fall's event exceeded all expectations with the amount raised."
The 28th annual tournament, held on Sept. 21 at the Penn State Golf Courses, attracted a total of 220 golfers. The 14-member planning committee, led by co-chairs Laura Davis and Jeff Minelli and event coordinator Dana Williams from Penn State IT, spent nearly 10 months preparing for the event, overseeing everything from sponsor recruitment to tournament logistics. In the weeks leading up to the tournament, they were joined by 31 additional volunteers from Penn State IT, who helped the event run smoothly.
"Penn State IT is proud of the impact this event has on the Centre County region," said David Horton, Penn State's vice president for Information Technology and chief information officer. "As a support organization for the University, we take our commitment to creating impact through service seriously. The tournament takes that commitment a step further by supporting the men, women and children of Centre County through the United Way's programs. I couldn't be more proud of our staff who volunteer their time and expertise to make this significant event a reality."
Horton also expressed gratitude to the tournament's vendor partners and sponsors, including platinum sponsors AHEAD, Dell Technologies, Hewlett Packard Enterprise, ModernOps and Salesforce. All top-tier sponsors were invited to a breakfast the day after the tournament to meet with Horton and members of his senior leadership team.
The tournament remains one of the largest contributors to Penn State's annual United Way campaign, continuing a long tradition of support for organizations that strengthen the Centre County community.
