UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — The College of Information Sciences and Technology (IST) recently honored C. Frank Igwé with the Dean’s Alumni Excellence Award, a newly created honor to highlight and celebrate the extraordinary work and accomplishments of IST alumni.

Igwé earned his doctoral degree from the College of IST in 2008. In 2012, he founded Moravia Health, where he now serves as president. Based in Pennsylvania, Moravia Health provides home health care to thousands of clients across the United States.

“Frank is an example of someone who’s using his IST degree to improve people’s lives,” said Andrea Tapia, dean of the College of IST, who presented the first Dean’s Alumni Excellence Award to Igwé at a ceremony in Philadelphia. “A socio-technical scholar, Frank uses technology to support health care, aging and recovering in place.”

With the tagline “There’s No Place Like Home,” Igwé’s Moravia Health is committed to the belief that health care is a basic human right, according to the organization's website. Its vision is for all clients to achieve maximum independence in their homes and communities through quality homecare and support.

“Using technology, Frank created a way for his clients to be honored and respected,” Tapia said. “And he ensures that those who provide in-home care, ranging from unskilled aid to skilled medical services, are trained, supported and — perhaps most important — paid for that important work.”

Igwé also founded Moravia Cares, a nonprofit that helps low-income families in Pennsylvania and other states across the nation. The organization supports families in need by providing food, clothing and other necessary resources.

The Dean’s Alumni Excellence Award is presented at the behest of the dean of the College of IST. It was created in 2024 to honor IST alumni who are doing outstanding work in the field of information technology. Alumni who earned their IST degree at University Park Campus or Penn State World Campus are eligible.
