IST professor Lee Giles selected as outstanding academic leader in data

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Chief Data Officer (CDO) Magazine selected C. Lee Giles, professor emeritus in the Penn State College of Information Sciences and Technology (IST), to its Outstanding Academic Leaders in Data List 2024.

The leaders were recognized for setting new benchmarks of excellence and inspiring the next generation of data professionals within the academic sphere, according to CDO Magazine. Their accomplishments extend beyond traditional academic boundaries to influence the broader data community and contribute to the global dialogue on data ethics, privacy and accessibility.

“We are so pleased that Lee continues to be recognized for his trailblazing accomplishments,” said Andrea Tapia, dean of the College of IST. “His contributions have helped define the Information Age, and we’re fortunate that he chose to spend the past two decades of his impressive career at Penn State.”
