UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — The first three years of a child’s life bring both joy and stress. To help parents and caregivers meet challenges and give the baby a great start, Penn State Extension’s food, families and communities unit partnered with the Clearinghouse for Military Family Readiness at Penn State to offer the “Thrive Initiative: Take Root” webinar series.

The series will take place from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. Wednesdays, March 5 through April 2.

The Take Root program covers pregnancy through age three. Participants will explore the baby’s development from their own perspective and from the baby’s perspective. Caregivers will consider how to use that knowledge while growing and learning with the baby.

Since infants change so quickly, Take Root includes three tracks: zero to six months, six to 12 months and one to three years. This five-part hybrid program includes virtual on-demand lessons combined with online interactive webinars with Penn State Extension educators and other parents.

The program is aimed at helping attendees:

  • Understand what their baby is trying to tell them with certain behaviors.

  • Manage the daily stressers so they can enjoy their baby and deal with challenges.

  • Adopt strategies to respond to their child in gentle, reassuring and predictable ways.

Taught by highly qualified educators with years of experience in child development, Thrive offers programs to empower parents and caregivers as they nurture children to adulthood.

Penn State Extension offers this webinar series free of charge, but registration is required to receive the link to access the webinars.
